Teza

The aim of this work is the synthesis of copper coordination compounds of salicylaldehyde
4-allyl-S-methylisothiosemicarbazone (HL) with different amines, determination of their composition,
structure, physicochemical and biological properties.

The experiments showed that ethanolic solutions of copper nitrate react with isothiosemicarbazone HL
and different amines forming fine-crystalline coloured coordination compounds. The composition of
these compounds was determined using elemental analysis for copper: Cu(A)(L)NO3·nH2O, where A=
3-Pic, Im, Py, 3,4-Lut, 1,10-Phen; n=0; 1. Using IR-spectra of the synthesized compounds it was
supposed that isothiosemicarbazone HL behaves as mono-deprotonated tridentate ligand with O, N, N
set of donor atoms.
Monocrystals of Cu(1,10-Phen)(L)NO3 were obtained as a result of recrystallization from ethanol. In
this coordination compound 4-allyl-S-methylisothiosemicarbazone HL behaves as monodeprotonated
ligand with O,N,N-set of donor atoms and coordinates to the central atom by phenolic oxygen,
azomethine and thiocarbamide nitrogen atoms, forming five- and six-membered metallocycles. The
fourth and fifth coordination sited are occupied by nitrogen atoms of 1,10-Phen.
The study of anticancer activity showed that copper coordination compounds manifest selective
antiproliferative activity against HeLa, BxPC-3 and RD cells. The IC50 values towards these cells are in
the range of 1.33-13.5 μmol / L. These compounds manifests better activity towards BxPC-3 cells, as
well as possess better selectivity comparing antiproliferative activity towards cancer and normal
MDCK cells.
