Bibracchial lariat ethers (BiBLEs)1 still attract relentless attention as smart macrocyclic ligands with the mixed set of donor-acceptor functions capable to effectively bind either cation or anion (doubly N-protonated dication). In continuation of our previous studies2 we revealed that condensation of N,N'-(1,4,10,13-tetraoxa-7,16diazacyclooctadecane-7,16-diyl)-diacetohydrazide with acetone resulted in a novel BiBLE, I. In the triclinic sp. gr. P-1 molecule I resides on an inversion center with its two planar arms arranged above and below macrocyclic cavity that shield the macrocyclic N,O-atoms from any interactions. P-methoxydibenzyl-N,N’-diaza-18C6, II transforms in a doubly protonated dication in the reaction with boron trifluoride etherate resulting in the complex [H2-II](BF4)2 with the side arms again arranged above and below the macrocyclic cavity and two BF4-2 anions held via CH....F interactions.figureFig. View of molecule I I and complex [[H2-II](BF4)2 |
