In 2016, experts from the National Agency for Archaeology conducted preventive archaeological research on the Făleștii Noi I settlement and barrow no. 3 near Egorovca village. These sites adjoined the R16 highway (Bălți-FăleștiSculeni) on which this year repairs were carried out. The Făleștii Noi I settlement was discovered in 2015, being 2,5 km north-west of the Făleștii Noi village. Three excavation trenches were laid here, two in the immediate vicinity of the highway, and the third in the central part of the settlement. The ceramic collection from the excavation area I and II consists of fragments of pottery vessels (gray-burnished and rough) and Roman amphoras. According to the technical and morphological features, this pottery belongs to the Sântana de Mureș-Chernyakhov culture. In the excavation trench III materials of the Eneolithic period were discovered. Part of the ground dwelling was documented by the accumulation of fragments of burnt clay. Here, an accumulation of ceramic fragments was discovered, on the basis of which the settlement of the Cucuteni–Tripolye culture is dated back to the Cucuteni A-B phase. Ceramics is divided into three categories: painted from fine-grained clay; with a mixture of grog and with an admixture of crushed shells. An anthropomorphic figurine was also found in the excavation site. The surface of the figurine is covered with a linear ornament, made of brown paint. A burial was investigated containing a skeleton laying on his back in a narrow elongated pit in the mound no. 3 near Egorovca village. Basing on the details of the burial rite, we assume a possible attribution of this complex to the late nomadic burials of the Middle Ages. |
