The society and the current economic world are marked by major changes, with complex and provocative character. The most significant changes are related to the orientation towards the sustainable development achievement, and the respect of the sustainability principles, along with other European political and administrative changes. In this context, one of the solutions to achieve simultaneous the economic and social objectives, is the creation of the cross-border partnerships, by which it can support the actions that lead to the economic and social progress, on the long term and with stable character, both at the national and international level. Through this paper, we propose to realize an incursion on the last 10 years evolution of the cross-border programs, from various area of activity - economics, education, environment, health etc., in reference to the partnerships between Romania and Republic of Moldova. The aim of the paper is to identify the congruence of results obtained by these partnerships, with the objectives of sustainable development. The research, with character predominantly qualitative, has a methodological demarche based on inventory and grouping of cross-border programs developed between these two countries, respectively the analysis of the programs results, from the new perspective, to obtain the social and economic progress, in the conditions of sustainability.
