Rezumat

The political terror, survived by the Romanian people during the Gheorghe GheorghiuDej’s governance, was taken over and applied much more intensively by Nicolae Ceaușescu. The policy of the latter leader did not bring any benefits to the people, but only enslaved and impoverished them. Nicolae Ceaușescu, through all the decisions he had taken, had imposed an absolute totalitarianism, which denies all human rights and subordinates the person to the collective entity of the party. Among the other measures, the Communist regime placed the great emphasis on the USSR’s support, moving Romania as far as possible from the West. The main wish of President Nicolae Ceaușescu was to transform Romania into a comprehensively developed country. In his desire to pay the external debt, he had subjected the people to great sufferings, due to the lack of food, electricity and fuel. During this period, the religious cult could not remain indifferent to the abuses that took place, and therefore, the Romanian Christian Committee for the Defense of Religious and Conference Freedom was estabilished. The efforts taken by the members of the religious cults were aimed at keeping the moral order in the territory of the Socialist Republic of Romania. All the sufferings of the Church ended in December 1989, through the execution of the Ceaușescu couple. The entire activity of Justinian, Iustin and Teoctist Patriarchs kept in restrain the communist liberation, which was focused on the destruction of the Church. They were noted for their critical attitude towards the regime.
