Onisifor Ghibu, through his remarkable culture, erudition and experience in building the spiritual integrity of the Romanian people, was firmly convinced of the role of the ASTRA Association in Bassarabia in promoting the values of Romanian and universal civilization and culture. At the beginning of the 20th century, Onisifor Ghibu founded Basarabean ASTRA with ten literary and scientific sections and having Mr. Ștefan Ciobanu, member of the Romanian Academy as a chairman. The ASTRA Association was meant to study, popularize and realize various cultural and life issues of the Romanian people in Bassarabia. Through it actions, the Bessarabian ASTRA asserted itself in the consciousness of public opinion as a genuine and dynamic cultural body, as a prestigious spiritual and national center, as a factor that gathered around it the entire intelligentsia and the entire population of good faith. The ASTRA’s echo set up by Onisifor Ghibu is felt today again in our land and continues to promote the heritage of astrological values for Romanians everywhere.
