This is the third and last part of the study concerning the U.S. policy with regard to the territorial problem of Bessarabia during the last stage of the First World War and at the subsequent Paris Peace Conference. We aim at dissecting the US attitude as reflected in American diplomatic correspondence. During this part, we have reconstituted, explained and analyzed the evolution of the issue between April 1918 and October 1920, explaining the following key elements outlining the atittude of the American public opinionm and also othe fficial policy towards Bessarabia: 1) the attitude of the US press towards the the union of Bessarabia and Romania during the last stage of the war and at the Paris Peace Conference, 2) the US refusal to sign the international treay for the recognition of te union, and 3) the attitude of Ioan Pelivan, chief of the Bessarabian delegation at the Paris Peace Conference, towards the stance adopted by American diplomats with regatd to the union. |
