Rezumat

In the Republic of Moldova about 168 settlements with a total area of 1300 km2 and about 160 thousand inhabitants are under the threat of flooding. Simultaneously with the lifting of protective dams on the rivers Dniester and Prut complex hydro nodes were built – at Dubasari (1954), Novodnestrovsk (in Ukraine - 1981) and Costesti-Stinca (1978). Their main function consists in regulating the flow and protection against catastrophic floods, as well as in producing electricity. The state of anti-flooding protection dams, both on large rivers and small rivers, continues to get worse every year, which represents a real risk referring to the life and work of people in those regions. Work activities in the field of protection against floods must be conducted permanently in the way of carrying out monitoring activities, modernizing existing buildings and equipment, current repairing, implementation of advanced technologies. The prevention or limitation of their damage is achieved through structural and nonstructural measures. Sustained efforts are required in flood risk management in all three characteristic phases, namely the determination, assessment and risk control.
