Rezumat

Parvovirosis is the most common viral enteritis encountered in the dog, characterized by gastrointestinal syndrome and high mortality in young dogs. The purpose of our study was to investigate the incidence of the disease in the last 2 years (March 2016 - March 2018) and to evaluate the effectiveness of rapid diagnostic tests to detect parvovirus infection in dogs. The incidence of this disease has increased considerably in recent years, so that of 364 cases diagnosed with parvovirosis over the previously mentioned period, it was found that 60% (n = 218) of the patients had the disease after vaccination and 40% (n = 146) of cases were unvaccinated. The highest incidence of the disease was observed in dogs aged 7 to 10 weeks (67%, n = 244), followed by dogs between 11-16 weeks (22.8%, n = 83), then patients aged between 17 weeks and 6 months (9.3%, n = 34) and 0.9% were seen in dogs aged 7 to 9 months (n = 3). Rapid diagnostic tests performed on faecal samples detected the virus in 86% (positive samples) of cases and in particular in cases that did not have specific forms of the disease, and in 14% of cases the test results were negative, requiring repetition , patients subsequently displaying the disease. These results prove the effectiveness of rapid diagnostic tests.
