Rezumat | ||||||
The remarkable vocal and artistic qualities of the famous soprano Maria Cebotari, originating from Bessarabia, Primadonna of the Opera in Dresden, Berlin and Vienna in the 30–40s of the last century, were evoked and analyzed in monographs, studies and articles elaborated by great executives of the field, by well-known people of art and culture. However, the value of another aspect of her creation remained in the shadow - the cinematographic one, her skills as a movie actress that she has shown in 10 fiction movies produced at the most prestigious studios in Europe: Swing song, Giuseppe Verdi, Madame Butterfly Premiere, Love me, Alfredo, Odessa in flames, Maria Malibran etc. Maria Cebotari managed to fascinate the European viewer through the charm and naturalness of her actor’s play, by avoiding melodramatic exaggerations and tearful stereotypes crystallized in the European musical film. The human tragedy triggered by the second world conflagration has left its mark on her artistic destiny and the created roles - she has played herself, her own sensitivity, her own perseverance and resistance to the ideological pressures of the time. She has not always been able to avoid the stereotypes precipitated in the musicals, but she has managed to impose new formulas of naturalness and intelligence on the screen, which have enriched the cinematic language of the time |
