În anul 2018, la iniţiativa şi cu suportul financiar al comitetului executiv al consiliului orăşenesc Tatarbunar, regiunea Odesa, expediţia Sectorului de arheologie a Crimeii şi a nord-vestului Mării Negre a Institutului de Arheologie al Academiei Naţionale de Ştiinţe a Ucrainei, sub conducerea autorului acestui studiu, a efectuat cercetări istorico-arheologice la fortificaţia Tatatrbunar. Astfel, a fost efectuată o analiză a surselor scrise, au fost identificate şi cercetate ruinele încă vizibile la suprafaţa solului. De asemenea, au fost realizate o serie de sondaje arheologice. Ca urmare s-a stabilit că fortificaţia otomană a fost construită în anii 1624-1628 şi a funcţionat până în anul 1770.

In 2018, on the initiative and with the financial support of the executive committee of the Tatarbunary Town Council of Odessa Region, the expedition of the Department of Archeology of the Crimea and the NorthWestern Black Sea Coast of the Institute of Archeology of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, led by the author of this article, conducted historical and archaeological research in the Tatarbunary Fortress. In the course of this research, an analysis of written sources was performed, the ruins visible on the surface were identified and examined, and small-scale protective and search excavations were carried out. It was concluded that the Ottoman fortress was built in 1624-1628 and ceased to exist in 1770.
