Rezumat

Brain drain is a complex and controversial process which influences both the economy of developed and developing countries. The exodus of intellect itself is already a substantial loss of valuable human capital and one of its negative effects is to reduce the human potential of the states. The lack of qualified human resources automatically reduces the amount of investments in key areas of the economy such as innovation. In the case of Republic of Moldova, the impact of brain drain has both positive and negative effects. From an economic perspective, migrants' remittances are an important source of income, leading to GDP growth. On the other hand, emigration of skilled labor resources creates negative social effects, such as reduction of scientific-innovational potential, family breakdowns, reduced labor productivity etc. Using the data from official statistics, we realized an econometric analysis to estimate the effects of the exodus of intellect in Moldova. Thus it was shown that this process directly influences the growth of remittances. The calculation also shows a decrease in the growth rate of GDP with the increases of brain drain, which is a negative effect on the Moldovan economy overall
