The development of a Catholic press in Romania was a constant wish of the Catholic Church. However, the realization of this project did not lead to unitary actions coordinated by the local, national ecclesiastical authority. It rather resulted in the personal actions of some members of the clergy who were later approved and supported by the Church. The establishment of the Presa Bună (The Good Press) Institute in Iaşi represents such a project that centered on Anton Gabor, one of the promoters of the establishment of a Catholic press in Romania. The issue of the establishment of a Catholic press in the diocese of Iasi, which covers the entire area of Moldova, was first discussed at the beginning of the 20th century (more precisely, in 1908), when priest Iosif Malinowski tried to publish a Catholic journal he intended to name “The Catholic Sheet”. In 1913 Monsignor Anton Gabor began publishing the magazine “Light of the Christian”, a pilot project and a more personal undertaking. However, he managed to maintain and develop this publication. Still, Anton Gabor (one of the most important supporters of the Catholic press in Romania) wanted more than simply editing a magazine. He wished to set up a Press Institute with an active role in promoting Catholic publications in Romania. The Good Press Institute in Iasi became basically the cultural center of Catholic life in Moldova. In September 1919, the statute of the Good Press Catholic Society was published. This organization aimed at the printing and dissemination of religious writings. It included the Good Press Publishing House, the Good Press Printing House, and the Good Press Library. The Good Press Library opened in 1919-1924. It focused on printing three series of works: The Moral History Series, The Religious Series and The Life of the Saints Series.

Dezvoltarea unei prese catolice în România a reprezentat un deziderat al Bisericii Catolice. Totuşi, realizarea acestei dorinţe nu s-a concretizat în acţiuni unitare coordonate de autoritatea ecleziastică locală, naţională, ci mai degrabă în acţiuni personale ale unor clerici, care au fost ulterior asumate şi susţinute de Biserică. Înfiinţarea Institutului Presa Bună din Iaşi reprezintă un astfel de demers, care l-a avut în centru pe monseniorul Anton Gabor, unul dintre artizanii înfiinţării unei prese catolice în România. Problema înfiinţării unei prese catolice în dieceza de Iaşi, ce acoperă practic zona Moldovei, s-a pus la începutul secolului XX (mai exact, în 1908), când preotul Iosif Malinowski a încercat să publice o revistă catolică, pe care voia s-o intituleze „Foaia catolică”. În 1913 monseniorul Anton Gabor începe publicarea revistei „Lumina creştinului”, tot ca un proiect-pilot, mai mult personal, care însă reuşeşte să se menţină şi să se dezvolte ulterior, iar iniţiatorul (unul dintre cei mai important susţinători ai presei catolice din România) a dorit mai mult decât simpla editare a unei reviste, ci a vrut să înfiinţeze un institut de presă, cu rol activ în promovarea publicaţiilor catolice în România. Institutul Presa Bună de la Iaşi a reprezentat practic centrul cultural al vieţii catolice din Moldova. În luna septembrie 1919 a fost publicat proiectul de statut al Societăţii Catolice Presa Bună, care avea ca scop tipărirea şi răspândirea scrierilor religioase şi care cuprindea Editura Presa Bună, Tipografia Presa Bună, Biblioteca Presa Bună. Din fondurile strânse în perioada 19191924 s-a deschis Biblioteca Presa Bună, în care se dorea a se tipări trei serii de lucrări: Seria Istorioare Morale, Seria Religioasă şi Seria Vieţile Sfinţilor.
