Rezumat

This article aims to elucidate the functions acquired by the abbreviations wich are used in the communautaire acquis language that is seen as a pragmatic reality. However, it should be emphasized that the text of the acquis communautaire, understood as a terminologized one, very dynamic and open to the linguistic innovations, to the abbreviations in particular, is one that is made hinc et nunc, being par excellence an pragmatic one and representing the functioning of the language as such in the speech process. Thus, it is possible to identify such a functions as referential, conative, expressive, metalinguistic, phatic and, above all, the function of the economy of the language. In order to determine the functions that abbreviations perform, we use in this article the concepts denotation/ connotation and motivation/ demotivation. On the one hand, we will understand the denotation of a word as its proper, objective and stable meaning, while connotation refers to what is variable in significance, revealing the subjective or contextual elements. On the other hand, logos involve motivation / demotivation of terms, which specifies the type of link between signified and signifier. In certain language situations, it determines both the type and the abbreviation function, which facilitates the understanding of the abbreviated terms that occur in the oral discourse, making the functionable abbreviations as linguistic "economic" units instead of the full forms of words, thus becoming widely understood by audiences than just some profesional participants in the speech act, adding an expressive effect, as well as metallurgical, conative and / or fatical one.
