Rezumat

There is no language in which there is no motivation; also conceiving one in which everything is motivated is impossible by definition. Between the two extreme limits - maximum organization and minimum arbitrariness - we find all possible varieties. In this article, we propose to discuss this phenomenon: the signifier and the signified by using newer concepts that are to remodel, but perhaps also to revise the notion of the sign of the language. The phenomenon of motivation of the language units is manifested through their motivational, lexical or phraseological relations, whose updating suggest awareness of the motivation of the language units, i.e the interdependence of the internal and the external form, the signifier and the signified. The character of motivation, as a property of the glotic units, is related to such language characteristics as the tendency towards the motivation of the glotic unity and the tendency towards its arbitrariness, which is achieved by a series of lexical processes - nomination, remotivation, neomotivation, demotivation, lexicalization of the internal form of the word, etc. The relationship between the name and things is one of the essential issues of onomasiology. The two types of empirical and scientific knowledge make it possible to distinguish between popular and scholarly "cognitive models", which determines the identification of the sign of the representation of the object, that is, of the primary images that help us to understand the denomination mechanism in the act of creating the new form of expression - a word, a semantic derivative or a phrase.
