Rezumat

Russia has inherited the secessionist conflict in Transnistria from the Soviet Union. At  the first stage, the secessionist conflict aimed to keep Moldova east of the Prut within the Soviet state. After the collapse of the USSR, Russia used the Transnistrian conflict to maintain the Republic of Moldova in its geopolitical influence zone. Another major objective is the preservation of the Russian military presence in the area. Russia’s strategy in the political settlement of the Transnistrian conflict is reduced to imposing the solution of the „federalization” of the Republic of Moldova in order to institutionalize the political influence of its separatist puppets from Tiraspol. Under the hybrid war tactics, Russia uses the Transnistrian separatist regime against Ukraine. For these reasons, the Transnistrian conflict can not be solved within the perimeter of Russia’s dominant role within the international mechanism of political regulation.
