Bessarsabians’s emigration to America has taken place before and after The Greater Union. However, it was not a mass migration, because the Bessarabian peasants wanted to remain at their birthplaces. During the 1920s, the migration wave has grown. The destinations were Latin America countries (Brazil, Argentina, Uruguay and Paraguay) but also Canada. Their departure was determined by wish of having more lands and a better life, but also by the migration propaganda. They have sold in haste their properties in order to emigrate. Then, after they arrived to their destinations, were profoundly disappointed, and come back to Romania asking for help to the authorities. This situation was attentively followed by the police authority because those situations had several repercussions (depopulation, swindles etc.).
