This paper aims to reflect on the relationships between school, family and media culture. The roles and functions assigned to family and school have redefined those contexts, very much under the impact of new media technologies, which bring about new challenges, possibilities and also threats. School and family are, thus, called upon to address the complex environment that the media culture has imposed. We tried to show how products and programs can be categorized as inherently positive, neutral (requiring monitoring) or dangerous (that should be excluded). The categorization is based on advanced physical, psychological and social criteria that allow for a filter processing of contents to be implemented at each development stage.
