The article examines the linguistic research of the past 20-25 years, in which it is claimed that Romanian was not descended from Latin, but it is a continuation of the Dacian language, in this sense the New School of Romanian Linguistics appeared. After examining a huge linguistic, historical and archaeological material, they prove that this theory is only partially accurate, meaning that Romanian is not a direct descendant of Latin. Obviously, the representatives of this research department exaggerate, claiming that the Dacian language would be a different language from Latin. It is true that Romanian, like other neo-Romanian languages, does not come from the Latin language encoded in grammars and spoken by Romanian writers, orators and politicians. It descends from the dialects spoken in the Balkans by the ancient populations, including the Geto-Dacians, dialects labelled by the Roman aristocracy as barbarous, rustic, vulgar, all of them considered as dialects or languages, including the Latin language and that of the Geto-Dacians. Finally, the author warns all those who are concerned with the Romanian history and language that it would be advisable to avoid the extremes and take into consideration the Latin expression aureamediocritas "the golden mean" - a kind of exhortation to temperance, to avoiding excesses. |
