Noul Neamţ Monastery, the last one founded in Bessarabia on the estate of Chiţcani in the second half of the 19th century, had the richest library, formed and completed with the contribution of Andronic Popovici and his disciples, starting with 1861. Out of the total number of books studied, 215 titles in 283 copies were printed until 1892, that is, the year of the end of the work of the Andronic confessor. Obviously, not all these books were brought by Andronic Popovici from the Neamţ lavra, and it is impossible to determine at the present time the exact number and the titles of the books from Neamţ, precisely because many of them have no marginal notes. After the final settlement in Bessarabia, Andronic Popovici kept the ties with outstanding personalities of the Romanian nation, which he involved in completing the library with valuable Romanian books, church and secular. The library of the New Neamţ monastery was completed with Romanian literature sent by several Romanian personalities such as: the monk Sava Petrovici, the priest Ieroftei, Constantin Botezatu and his generals Gavriil Catacazi, Metropolitan of Moldova Iosif Naniescu (1818–1902), the archimandrite Conon Aramescu Donici (1837–1922), then the primate metropolitan of Romania, Ion Ignat from Falesti and Mihail Kogalniceanu (1817–1891). Most books donated by Moldovan Metropolitan Iosif Naniescu were brought to Bessarabia by the Archimandrite Conon Arămescu Donici in the years 1889–1990. In large part, the library of the Nun Neamţ monastery was completed with Romanian prints during the life of Andronic Popovici. |
