Rezumat

The genus Satureja L. (Lamiaceae) comprises of about 225 species, including: Satureja L. s. str., Calamintha Hill., Clinopodium L. Micromeria Benth., etc. These are annual or perennial plants, including herbs and dwarf shrubs that occur in arid, sunny and rocky habitats. Satureja subspicata L. is a rare, endemic Balkan specie distributed in the eastern Mediterranean area, a perennial subshrub. Climate of the Republic of Moldova is favorable for S. subspicata, where plants rich up to 20 cm, has a normal rate of growth rhythm and successfully attains the generative period (see Figure).As medicinal plants, Satureja (Savory) species have been traditionally used as a stimulant, carminative, expectorant, aphrodisiac and in the treatment of colds. Due to their aromatic properties, they are widely used as culinary herbs. Figure. Flowering S. subspicata. In addition to this, some Satureja species have impressive ornamental value and can be used in rock gardens or borders fronts. The aim of this work is to reveal for the first time the chemical composition of S. subspicata essential oil cultivated in climatic and soil conditions specific to Republic of Moldova by means of GC-MC analysis. Essential oil of S. subspicata was obtained by hydrodistilation of the aerial parts of the plant in the flowering period. The GC-MS analysis of the S. subspicata essential oil was carried out on a Agilent Technologies 7890A system with 5975C Mass-Selective Detector (GC-MSD) equipped with split-splitless injector (split, 250oC, split ratio 1:50, 1 L) and HP-5ms capillary calibrated column (30 m x 0.25 mm x 0.25 m); The carrier gas: Helium 1.1 mL/min; Oven: 70oC-2 min, 5oC/min - 200oC-20/min - 300oC-5min; MSD in scan 30-300 amu, 15 min, 30-450 amu, solvent delay 3.40 min. The chemical profile includes forty four constituients and consists mostly (97.86%) of phenolic monoterpenes, monoterpene hydrocarbones, bicyclic monoterpens and their oxigenated derivatives. According to GC-MC analysis the most abundant component of S. subspicata essential oil af Moldavian origin are: carvacrol (47.56%), p-cimen (6.94%), terpinene (5.54%), nerol (2.15%), (E)-citral (7.23%), (Z)-citral (5.73%), (+)-β-bisabolene (5.80%), β-caryophyllene (2.61%), germacrene B (1.78%) and germacrene D (1.42%). The quantitative and qualitative chemical differentiation of S. subspicata oil of Moldavian and Croatian origin was found. This might be correlated with different geographic location and ecological conditions. The high level of carvacrol suggests that Satureja subspicata L. essential oil of Moldavian origin belongs to the phenolic chemotype.
