After the Great Union, Bessarabia integrates into the social, political, economic and cultural social life of Romania, which had already established a functional system of modern institutions. An important role in the modernization of the Romanian education was the adoption of the 1866 Constitution and the reformation of schools of all grades on modern bases by Spiru Haret. The basic constitutional principles of Romanian education were that primary education should be free, compulsory, and offered free of charge. After 1918, significant progress was made in Bessarabia. |
