Advanced oxidation protein products (AOPP) can be produced during oxidative stress due to the interaction of plasma proteins with different prooxidants and are considered as new markers of protein damage induced by the free radicals of oxygen. The purpose of the research was to study in vitro the influence of local products PSS, BioR-Ge and BioR-Zn on the OAPP in healthy individuals and in persistent bronchial asthma (PBA) of different severity. The research was performed on peripheral blood samples collected from 40 patients diagnosed with PBA. Patients were divided into the following groups: I – control, that included 10 healthy people; II – 10 patients with mild form of PBA; III – 10 patients with moderate form of PBA; IV – 10 patients with severe form of PBA. All blood samples were treated with local cyanobacterial remedies – BioR, BioR-Ge and BioR-Zn. Changes of the AOPP are presented in the table below. PSS and BioR-Ge in both tested doses increased significantly AOPP by 25–42% (p<0.001) compared to the control group values, while BioR-Zn maintained AOPP levels at reference one in healthy persons. AOPP values were increased by 46% (p<0.01) and 32% (p<0.001) in mild and severe PBA and decreased by 22% (p <0.001) in moderate PBA compared to the reference levels. AOPP level diminished compared with the control under medication with tested remedies in mild PBA, while in the moderate PBA studied BCA induced a statistically significant increase by 33–86% of AOPP in all groups, which was higher by 36–44% (p<0.001) compared to the control levels. Only BioR-Zn restored the AOPP content to the values specific for healthy individuals.  In severe forms of PBA all investigated local remedies reduced by 32–40% initially increased levels of AOPP and tended to restore the values registered in healthy individuals. The results of the study revealed that the most effective remedy proved to be BioR-Zn which managed to bring the AOPP content in all forms of asthma to the indices of a healthy individual. In conclusion, the studied bioactive products have antioxidant effect, characterized by the tendency of normalization of AOPP, especially in the severe form of bronchial asthma. These products can be used as remedies for correcting the imbalance between the oxidation/antioxidant processes caused by bronchial asthma.
