Rezumat

A chiral monoterpene (+)-3-carene is produced on an industrial scale and serves as a valuable feedstock for stereoselective synthesis of wide variety of substances, not only containing carbon, but also other elements due to their natural chirality and advanced skeleton. On the other side, epoxides 1,2 serve as important intermediates in many synthetic schemes as they offers a wide variety of opportunities for subsequent development. They can be prepared from (+)-3-carene by a number of methods including transition metal catalysed oxidation with hydrogen peroxide or molecular oxygen and treatment with sulfonic peracids or dimethyldioxirane. O O (+)-3-carene 1 2 + [o] In the course of this study, high-yielding (up to 96%) stereoselective protocols for exclusive formation of α-oxide 1 has developed via reusability of the catalytic system using nano-powder alumina (2-4 nm) as a heterogeneous catalyst and hydrogen peroxide (8% in ethyl acetate) as an oxidant. As far as the oxidation reaction is concerned, employment of hydrogen peroxide as the oxidant agent offers several advantages: it is relatively cheap and environmentally friendly, since water is obtained as a by-product. Selectivity of the olefin epoxidation has been controlled by GC/MS method on an Agilent Technologies 7890A Gas Chromatograph with 5975C Mass Selective Detector with split/splitless injector and HP-5ms capillary column (30m/0,25 m).
