In the study of Dosoftei, the Metropolitan of Ardeal, a precursor of Varlaam of Moldova (Reception of the Teaching Gospel (Rohmanov, 1619) by Kirill Trankvillion Stavrovetsky in Romanian Countries) starting from the reconstruction of the life and activity of Orthodox hierarch Dosoftei of Transylvania (1622-1627) authors pass to the history of editing (with the support of Polish noblemen married to daughters of Ieremia Movilă, prince of Moldavia), reception and using of the Teaching Gospel by Ukrainian theologian Kirill Trankvillion in Romanian countries during the first half of the XVIIth century. This Gospel ... has been widely used in the defense of Orthodoxy and in the fight against Calvin’s proselytism through the creation of a series of other Christian-Orthodox teaching books, this time in Romanian, printed in Walachia (Teaching Gospel (Govora, 1642, Dealu, 1644) and Moldova (The Romanian Teaching Book... of Varlaam (Iaşi, 1643). These homiliaries, called the Cazanii, enjoyed a large circulation in the Romanian countries in the XVII-XVIII century, contributing to the process of unification and homogenization of the Romanian literary language. |
