Rezumat

This study is dedicated to researching the US position with regard to the Bessarabian question at the last stage of the First World War and during the Paris Peace Conference, that is, from 1917 to 1920. The study is divided into three parts. In the first part we aim at dissecting the US attitude towards the effects of the Russian Revolution on the Romanian Front and in Bessarabia, as reflected in American diplomatic correspondence. We also look at other aspects of the American stance in relation to the circumstances in which the March 27 Union took place, such as the interest of American diplomats towards the ethnic, cultural and social-economic and political realities of the land, or at their position on the first clashes between the Romanian army and the Bolshevik forces (under Cristian Racovski) based in Odessa. The upper chronological limit of this study is February 1918.
