Teza

This thesis addresses the importance of social networks for innovation, with a special focus on the regional nuances of the innovation process. Scholars in the social sciences refer to networks, scholars talk about them as multiple ties (Simard and West, 2006). These multiple ties can reflect formal collaboration or informal ties between individuals built through past collaborations. Networks are considered part of the organization’s institutional environment and can transmit knowledge from one entity to another (Simard and West, 2006:1). Innovation is any knowledge that is new or existing, introduced into and used in socially relevant process (Spielman, Davis, Negash and Ayele, 2011). It can be regarded as a good example of the interconnection between different layers of development. Innovations are increasingly important research topic due to their pervasive influence on even the smallest entaties and also on big organizations, regions or even countries. They lead to the appearance of new products, markets, but also to commercial or financial success (Fassin, 2000). We develop a model with a strong potential for application in the explanation of the innovation process in the context of the regional development and test it with fuzzy-set method.
