In this study X-ray computed tomography (X-ray CT)  was used to investigate the filler space distribution in the volume of polyethylene (PE) filter media. Halloysite nanotubes (HNT) were used as filler in a porous PE structure. PE filters are produced by the JSC ―Karpov Institute of Physical Chemistry‖ (Obninsk, Russia) by means of sintering technology and are designed for purification of drinking, technical and waste waters. Preliminary results show that the HNT filler can be distributed in the sample space quite uniformly, which plays an important role in the production of quality filters. The properties of the modified PE filters as well as the peculiarities of the porous structure and HMT volume distribution are also discussed. It is concluded that the X-ray CT is a modern powerful tool for studying PE filter porous structure and the filler distribution and it may be used as means for the quality control in the PE filters manufacture. HNT-derived nanocomposites and HNT-containing membranes show high efficiency in removing heavy metal ions, dye or organic pollutants from wastewaters and are promising for various water treatments .
