Ammonium compounds can be found in natural waters as a result of contamination with wastewaters or drainage water from agricultural areas where nitrogen fertilizers are used. Studies show that surface active substances (SAS) are present in river waters since conventional biological treatment methods are less effective for their purification. The SAS are toxic to bacteria, algae, fish, but there is no information on the cationic and non-ionic form content in natural and waste waters. This work concentrates on the studies of the influence of various surface active substances on the biochemical process of ammonium ion oxidation in natural waters. |
