The article written by Tamara Melnic is devoted to the most important aspect of the discipline named “general piano", its role in the process of professional and creative development of music students of higher institutions. The author stresses three principal aspects of this discipline: its universal, orientative and developing character. Special attention is paid to different kinds of interaction of “general piano” with other disciplines within the musical education – Analysis, History of Music, Ear Training and Harmony.
