The relationship between W. A. Mozart and the oriental music has been intensely
discussed in the speciality literature, a relationship observed in different forms in the
composer’s works. Romanian and foreign scholars have tried to establish the connection
between the Abduction From the Seraglio and the Dervish Aria, the latter being attributed
to D. Cantemir and believed to be a source of inspiration for the Janissary Chorus (Chor der Janitscharen) from the first and last acts of the opera. The historical documents do admit the possibility of Mozart knowing about the authentic Turkish music; written by Cantemir, especially since there have been found similar melodic formulas in the two works. Based on the reevaluation, on the previous elaborated studies, as well as on new materials, the author tries to bring additional arguments that would approach us to the clarification of the relationship between the musical activity of the Prince of Moldova and the master from Salzburg.
