One of the most characteristic features of communicative language teaching is that it pays systematic attention to functional as well as structural aspects of language, combining these into a more fully communicative view. Successful speaking is not just a matter of using grammatically correct words and forms but also knowing when to use them and under what circumstances. In acquiring the new language one needs to assimilate a set of sociocultural rules that will guide the learner in the choice of appropriate forms. |
