Rezumat | ||||||
Many researchers have tried to propose different classifications of euphemisms. The heterogeneity of these classifications should not surprise anyone since the development of such a classification is made taking into account the purpose, the classification criterion etc. The greatest majority of linguists classified euphemisms from the social, psychological, linguistic, pragmatic and other aspects which are reflected in the nature of euphemisms. First of all, we shall mention R. Holder’s lexical and semantic classification which includes more than 60 groups of euphemisms, all of which are registered in the Dictionary of Euphemisms. Generalizing the existing observations concerning the typology of euphemisms and taking into account their usage, frequency, and degree of knowledge, we shall highlight and focus on five types of euphemisms. |
