Rezumat

The paper describes and analyzes materials obtained from the Scythian barrows in the Volovarskata Mogila group near Novokamenka village, Izmail district, on the left bank of the Lower Danube. Both barrows turned out to be cenotaphs, since there were no funerary structures on the areas bordered by ring ditches. Eight Heraclean amphorae of the same type were found in the ditch of barrow 1. Seven similar vessels originate from the ditch of barrow 2, where a Heraclean amphora with the englyphic stamp of the manufacturer was also found. The barrows are dated to the end of the 4th - the first third of the 3rd century BC. Obviously, the practice of constructing cenotaphs is a particular evidence of the settled way of life of the Scythians, at least since the end of the 4th century BC.
