| Rezumat | ||||||
The case of Poland shows that gender quotas have an important impact on gender equality process and on enhancing the descriptive representation of women in Parliament. Political and social actors play a major role in adoption of legislative gender quotas through social actions, campaigns, voluntary political party quotas and a strong political and social movements as the Congress of Polish Women. Gender quotas’ implementation represents a complex process and should be analysed in the context of institutional, political, social, cultural, national and regional factors. The adoption of the legislative gender quotas in Poland led to an increase of almost 8% of women’s representation in Parliament from 2011. Voluntary political party quotas and legislative quotas present an efficient instrument to increase descriptive representation of women in politics. |
