Acest articol este dedicat studiului instituţiei şefului de stat în Republica Moldova. Autorii au elucidat evoluţia acestei instituţii de la declararea independenţei până în zilele de azi. Rolul şefului statului este unul semnificativ, pe de o parte, fiind reprezentatul poporului şi alesul acestuia. Iar pe de altă parte, din analiza atribuţiilor încredinţate conform Constituţiei, rolul Preşedintelui Republicii Moldova este unul formal, redus în raport cu alte puteri ale statului. Se ajunge la concluzia că categoria atribuţiilor şefului statului determină forma de guvernământ a Republicii Moldova, care dispune de un regim parlamentar.  

This article is based on the study of the head of state institution in the Republic of Moldova. The authors have elucidated the evolution of this institution since independence until nowadays. On the one hand, the role of the president is a significant one, being the representative of the people and elected by them. And on the other hand, for the performance of his tasks pursuant to the Constitution, the role of the President of the Republic of Moldova is formal, scaled down in comparison with all other branches of government. It concludes that category of the presidential duties determines the form of government of the Republic of Moldova, which has a parliamentary regime.
