Rezumat

The policies of exile and detention have a definite impact on a person who simultaneously becomes a prisoner and a writer. Russian writer and translator Meri Kusnikova, known in literary circles in USA, Germany, Russia, Romania, Kazakhstan, Poland, etc., made the first translation into Russian of 8 books written in the 19th century by Shimon Tokarzewsky, Polish writer and revolutionary. It happened 100 years after their first edition. The confrontation of Dostoevsky’s Memories from House of Deathwith Tokarzewsky’s Seven Years of Exileconfigures distinctly the truths of the camps from different perspectives: ethical, ethnic, social and political. Meri Kusnikova with her Romanian and Bessarabian roots personally experienced hardships and exaltation of the exile of the more recent times. In comments enclosed with the translations the writer succeeds in the unfolded image of exile and gives access to authentic archives of objective history.
