The first part of the paper describes concisely the three fundamental directions in the 20th century linguistics, presenting ways of distinguishing the spheres of structural linguistics and pragmatic linguistics. Subsequently, it touches upon the problem of interpreting the theoretical status of pragmalinguistics through the prism of the relation between structuralism and pragmatics. The comparative characterization of the two directions of linguistic research focuses on aspects that touch upon the approach to language and communication process, the functions of language in the communicative act and ways of interpreting language units and their meaning. |
