Rezumat

The multiple revelations and the symbolic significances of the architectural décor have been widely used in the ancient cultures. They executed a special function in the economy of the sacred and the religion of all peoples. These prototypes of plastic language were well known in the mythology of the peoples of the world, also being fully manifested in the Romanian space.  The problem addressed relates to the persistence of some symbols and plastic ideograms, disappeared in their major forms, but kept in the memory of the natives that can be found even today in the décor of the rural architecture.  As plastic image, these symbols have been reflected in all areas of folk art, traditional architecture while keeping the most impressive iconographic representations. These material samples deeply rooted in the horizons of the past spiritual life have evolved over the time and have contributed to the evolution of architectural forms, the development of the ornamentation and architectural decor. In this regard, the popular creation formed a huge substrate of cultures and mytho-folkloric structures constituting the basic ground of the Romanian plastic language.  The lasting in times of the multiple symbolic connotations of the architectural décor is an additional proof, regarding the persistence of the ancient folk beliefs. Handed down to us from generation to generation by our ancestors, they require to be further studied for detecting multiple valences that they wear in our traditional culture.
