Rezumat

One of the major concerns of the speakers is their preoccupation to build a favourable discursive ethos of their own, which – along with the pre-discursive ethos – are in a position to ensure the credibility of the conveyed message. Apart from the fundamental role of securing the cohesion/ coherence of the discourse, the argumentative indicators have a potential which highlights the socio-discursive image of the speaker. How efficiently do the speakers manage to master and handle the argumentative indicators in order to create a credible ethos for themselves and to ensure the adherence of the audience? This is the question to which I have sought answers in my present research, having as a starting point the attempt to elucidate the essence, characteristics and typology of the argumentative indicators. The present research is based on a semiotic and lexicometric approach applied to an online corpus of speeches selected from the contemporary French politics.
