In the current study, we will describe and evaluate professional life by investigating the increasing demand for translators in the fields of translation and professional communications in Turkey. We will also investigate the changes brought about by the appearance of new technologies, and the different forms of communication that have arisen as the result of different digital media and the internet in order to describe the new areas of work and the threats facing the field of translation. As a result of these changes, in recent years many universities in Turkey have made changes to their translator education programmes, and have focused on issues that require expertise regarding the adaptation to these new needs and demands. We will also deal with the approach to training translators in Turkey and its sufficiency in providing translation skills. In this context, after having discussed the insufficiencies of translator education, we will touch upon the issue of how prospective translators need to be prepared for professional life, which is becoming more and more complex.
