In this article the author examines a theoretical and methodological background of state (national) image. It is made an attempt to systematize the methodological approaches of the national image. The author mentions that, political image of the state plays an important role in international relations. Image of the country should be regarded as one of the competitive tools for solving state problems on the international arena. From the positive image of the state depends the development of trade and economic relations with other states, executing of foreign policy, as well he can be a powerful factor in the consolidation of the nation, strengthen of the identity of the people, one of the conditions of social security and effective negotiations, etc.
