What Changed in Clinical Manifestation and Evolution of Ulcerative Colitis in the Republic of Moldova in the Last 30 Years?
The aim of the study was the comparative analysis of epidemiological indices, demographic characteristics and clinical features of ulcerative
colitis for the last 30 years in Moldova. Different parameters of 305 patients who were under dynamic clinical supervision in Republican Clinical
Hospital were analyzed. Patients with an onset of disease up to 1989 have been included in group I (n = 74), from 1990 to 1999 – in group II
(n = 86) and from 2000 to 2009 – in group III (n = 112). According to the data of the national registry stable incidence (3 - 4 per 100000 persons)
and prevalence (17 - 21) rates of IBD, with some increase of parameters for last years (up to 4.6 and 25 accordingly) were marked. The substantial
increase of age of the disease onset was observed (34.1 ± 14.0; 39.1 ± 12.4; 41.5 ± 13.7; р < 0.001). The acute/severe disease onset was diagnosed
more often in group III (р = 0.006). Extent of disease, frequency and character of system manifestations and complications did not differ essentially
in groups of study. The ratio of different variants of disease evolution within 5 years essentially did not differ, however there is a tendency of
reduction of severe frequently relapsing disease behavior and of increase of steroid-dependence cases (that, probably, is mutually conditioned). |
