Medical doctors from the health sector have an important role in the implementation, monitoring and evaluation of the interventions on sustainable elimination of Iodine Deficiency Disorders. The aim of the present survey was to evaluate knowledge’s, attitudes and practices of the medical doctors from the State Service for Public Health Surveillance (SSPHS), responsible for the implementation of the intervention – iodization of food grade salt at the population level and of the family physicians responsible for the implementation at the individual level. 117 medical doctors from the SSPHS and a representative sample of 332 family physicians participated in the survey. The auto administrate questionnaire were used and response rate was 91.3% and 94.8%, irrespectively. It was established that medical doctors from both categories had insufficient knowledge’s about iodine deficiency, the main intervention for its control adopted in the Republic of Moldova and their attributions and lack sufficient instruments for implementation. The survey allowed for the understanding and awareness of the existing problems within the medical sector and the results of the survey are concluding on the necessity to strengthening the implementation mechanism of national programs on the elimination of iodine deficiency disorders and of the legislation in this area. |
