Home visiting programs offer a promising method for delivering support services to at-risk families and children and preventing child maltreatment. Reviews of research on home visiting program models have found evidence that some can improve important short- and long-term outcomes related to women’s prenatal health, the quality of parent-child interactions, children’s health and school readiness, and family economic self-sufficiency. In addition, some home visiting programs have reduced rates of self-reported and/or substantiated child maltreatment. This article will provide an overview of home health visiting in Europe, United States, historical timeline, the most effectiveness home visiting program models and its components. |
