The contribution of acad. Petru Zhukovskii to the Vavilov theory regarding the „Centers of Origin and Diversity of Cultivated Plants” was a key element to further the scientific progress. He proposed the division of Vavilovian centers in 2 categories (12 mega-genetic centers and some micro- genetic centers) with complete taxonomic competence of centers estimated on the base of personal observations and experimental analysis. The general foundations of Vavilovian genetic diversity and the laws of its mondial repartition are scientifically strengthened. The theory will be oriented into planned plant selection, agricultural practices in the field. The scientific branches of genetics, phytoimmunity, plant protection, selection of initial materials for hybridization, the geographical repartition of ancestors of cultivated species is based on Vavilovian species diversity concepts. |
