As a result of investigations on algal communities of the river Bic (the sector crossing Chisinau) there were found 253 species and varieties of algae, producing a biomass of 50 g/m2 up to 4-3 kg/m2. Diatoms are developing intensively in the autumn-winter-spring period, Chlorophyta – duing spring-summer-autumn and Cyanophyta and Euglenophyta – during summer and autumn. The species belonging to the Dinophyta and Xanthophyta phyla are rarely encountered in the periphyton of the river |
