Topicality. Premenstrual syndrome (PMS) is a condition which manifests with distressing physical, behavioral and psycological symptoms, which regularly recurs during the luteal phase of each menstrual cycle. Pain (dolor) symptoms are necessarily present in various forms of PMS, pain has clinical and social key role. Objective of our study was to identify the prevalence of premenstrual pain symptoms, the duration of expression of symptoms and pain intensity and its impact on quality of life. Materials and methods. This study included 272 females (136 with PMS and 136 controls), aged 15-45 years with normal menstrual cycle, no oral contraceptives users. The subjects were interviewed about demografic and socialeconomic status, life style, general health, medical and reproductive history, premenstrual symptoms using structured and validated questionnaires. Results. Among the painful premenstrual symptoms în the study group were estimated headaches - 66.17%, breast tenderness - 83 08 ± 3.21%, pelvic pain - 70.58 ± 3.9%, bloating and abdominal pain - 64.7 ± 4.09%, muscle and joint pain - 51.47 ± 4.28%. It is important to note that premenstrual symptoms are found associated emotional and phisical (pain), weak single symptoms were mentioned only by women in the control group. În the study group it was 5.62 ± 0.92 cyclical premenstrual symptoms included 2.47 ± 0.68 painful symptoms. Patients in study group mentioned the negative impact of pain symptoms on emotional and general state. Conclusion. Painful symptoms are dominant symptoms in the premenstrual syndrom, they determine its severity and have negative impact on the general condition of the woman. Most often painful premenstrual symptoms are headaches, breast tenderness, pelvic pain and muscle and joint pain, these are of moderate intensity |
