Rezumat

The study focuses on the development of the public services offered by public libraries in the years after the beginning of the library reform in Moldova. There are defined three periods which in Western librarians’ opinion characterize the development of modern library. The evolution of the services in public libraries in Moldova is reflected in the documents that have regulated the domain of librarianship: The Strategic Model the National Library System of Moldova, Development Program of Libraries in Moldova (1997-2000), the project the Strategy of the Development of the National Library System for the period 2010-2020, etc. Particular attention is paid to the development of modern services based on the implementation of Web 2.0 technologies in the library activity, and the conception of new services – Library 2.0. According to the study the needs of the users of net generation is much greater that the libraries’ possibilities: only 17% of the libraries have computers and about 10% of the libraries have Internet access. The conclusions contain ideas how to improve services both in the libraries that have already known the benefits of new technologies, and the libraries that have yet to introduce new technologies.
