In the digital era new perspectives open up for libraries – they have the chance to determine the evolution of knowledge influenced directly by information and communication technologies. Digital Society is changing the way people learn, communicate, do business, etc. For the development and the adaptation of a library to new trends it is very important for it to be present in cyberspace through the utilization of sites. Libraries use sites as a form of communication with its users via static information about library services. The effective communication via web pages should be changed from a passive to a constantly active one. Changes within libraries are inevitable, and if librarians are not actively involved in the process of change, they are no longer able to respond effectively to current needs of its users. Librarians should rapidly begin the shift from the management of physical type of information to the virtual one. Information technologies allow libraries to provide users with new tools and value-added services. IT contributes to the fundamental transformation of even traditional services, forcing libraries to alter the ways of their activity. Virtual presence is mandatory, and it is necessary for each library to have a website. |
